Homeschooling and homework

I chose to homeschool Michael given the new trial of formula will result in his needing to use the G-tube full-time. This is something we have not used daily in a long time. Michael was very clear he was not going to school with in it attached, he remembers his Kindergarden teacher making very rude comments and parents telling their own kids Michael didn't belong in school. I will be honest, I was more upset over the teacher's comments than the parents, at least the teacher was in the meetings and was more informed.

So homeschool is going OK, not sure how we got into a slump but we both have. Michael is unmotivated and not very interested in doing his work. I have tried to reward for lessons completed the same day, and if everything done by weeks end equals a reward. So far he has yet to earn anything and is attitude is more to blame. This weekend, while his brothers are enjoying their two days off from public school, Michael will be in his classroom doing science work that should of been done on Thursday along with 2 spelling test. UGH! where is the fun in that.

Add, Matthew simply fights homework, simple things he is very good at too. Like math, he loves math but yet rushes and makes too many mistakes. He also needs to write a friendly letter due on fridays based on a book he read, this morning I am fighting with him for leaving out the most important part of the letter--What book you read!

James is now riding the homework train, before it was simple things but now we have daily things. This is great as it does help establish a routine for him. What typically happens is he will model his brothers behavior and throw a fit--than when he sees he is not getting very far--enjoys doing his work.

I think it was easier to potty train the puppy than it is to train these boys to just do their homework.

Till next time..
